A Lush Country Wedding in a 17th-Century Stone Barn: Charlotte & Thomas

This couple had an incredible golden hour photoshoot

Our real wedding couple Charlotte and Thomas celebrated their special day in style immersed in the colourful, floral surroundings of Lyde Court in the sunny English countryside. Featuring a spectacular outdoor ceremony set against a backdrop of the lush, vibrant gardens surrounding the 17th-century stone barn venue and a stunning golden hour photoshoot, all was beautifully captured by Red Maple Photography, check out this charming sunshine filled wedding day below.

Before we dive head first into their vibrant, joyful wedding day, let's get to know the happy couple a little more. As musicians, Charlotte and Thomas have both been in bands all their lives and had their first encounter together while playing a local gig on the same line up! "We instantly clicked, met a few more times with mutual friends and the rest is history!" Fast forward to their engagement, Thomas proposed to his future wife in their home, "it was very low key but romantic, in our home. Tom had scattered roses everywhere and it was just a magical moment!"

Our glowing bride Charlotte opted to wear a graceful Kenneth Winston gown with subtle pearl beading on the bodice and floral lace detailing on the sleeves. As her something 'borrowed' she paired her bridal look with a dainty necklace belonging to her sister, and in an extra thoughtful touch, Charlotte wore the same earrings that her mum had worn on her own wedding day. Completing her ensemble, she added a stunning fresh flower bridal headpiece to complement her colourful bouquet filled with bright yellow sunflowers, daisies, cresedias and a scattering of purple, apricot and tangerine roses.

In terms of wedding aesthetic, Charlotte and Thomas wanted a fun and casual celebration with "a very traditional English country wedding vibe" with an added rustic twist. The whimsical Lyde Court played host to their enchanting ceremony and reception, with the barn venue being the only location the couple had viewed. Instantly falling in love with the space, Lyde Court ticked all the boxes for them, "it was a rustic barn but still had modern features, the surrounding countryside was stunning, there was no curfew and most importantly - there was a great selection of gins!"

Music played a vital role in the couple's special day, with Charlotte walking down the aisle to an acoustic version of Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. "As we were waiting my dad got emotional and I know my mum did too when that song came on." As music lovers, the couple found that the special playlist they curated together for each part of the day in order to set the scene throughout their wedding breakfast, ceremony and in the background of the rest of the festivities, to be a very special aspect of their wedding.

The couple have this advice for those embarking on their own wedding planning journey: "relax a little more over the finer details - no one really noticed if there are favours or if the place names are typed or handwritten, just make sure you have a moment for just the two of you and take as many photos as your photographer allows - you will never, ever regret that."

After a dreamy golden hour photoshoot set against a backdrop of the rolling English countryside, the couple made their way to the spectacular, exposed stone walled, vaulted ceiling barn at Lyde Court. Decorated with bunting, cascading foliage and burlap ribbon and illuminated by twinkling lights, the cosy venue served as the perfect spot for their rustic reception. Thomas' sister and Charlotte's uncle were able to lend a hand by designing and making their sweet table plans and welcome boards.

After their busy wedding celebrations, the couple jetted off to the sunny West Coast of America and went on an epic road trip honeymoon across California seeing San Francisco, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Monterey, Santa Barbara, LA and San Diego along the way! "Would 100% recommend after the stress of planning a wedding, it’s awesome to relax and just enjoy being newlyweds!"
