Bridal Style Inspiration from Kate Middleton's 40th Birthday Shoot

How you can steal Kate's birthday style for your big day!

The minute we saw the latest images of Kate Middleton, taken by photographer Paolo Roversi to celebrate her 40th birthday, we knew all three of her Alexander McQueen gowns would make incredible wedding dresses, and, of course, the little cogs in our brains started turning! A white or ivory version of any one of these couture gowns would make for a drop-dead gorgeous bridal look, so, of course, we had to scour the 2022 bridal collections for similar styles. And here are the fruits of our labour - all the Kate Middleton bridal style inspiration you need to get you started on your wedding dress search. Enjoy!

While we love the bold shade of Kate's Alexander McQueen gown (and love to see brides daring to wear red on the big day!), we think a white or ivory version would be incredible for a stylish black tie wedding. So we searched high and low for one-shoulder wedding dresses with a single, voluminous sleeve and a full skirt that flares out from a fitted waistline, with pockets included in the skirt. It's a really unique and dramatic look, but we managed to find a handful of dresses from the current collections with similar silhouettes for you to pore over!

Dress #2: Off-Shoulder Bow Romance

The second Alexander McQueen gown creates an altogether softer look, featuring a pleated bodice and pleated, full skirt, with off-shoulder neckline and trailing bows tied loosely below the shoulder. It's such a classic, regal look that not many contemporary bridal designers are currently using a similar silhouette, but thankfully, there are plenty of gorgeous examples of off-shoulder necklines and bow detailing at the shoulder, so eager brides-to-be will still be able to create a similar look!

Dress #3: Ruffled Elegance

The third Alexander McQueen dress in the series is like something from the Oscars 2022 red carpet -  a fitted, one-shoulder gown with statement ruffles at the shoulder and all along the bust. This was another tough look to find in the 2022 bridal collections, as asymmetrical gowns tend to also feature sleek, sharp silhouettes, but, of course, lots of designers have created more romantic alternatives. Contemporary Kate Middleton bridal style inspiration is all about a statement sleeve or shoulder moment, and the above gowns certainly deliver!
